Tanya Van Court
Family-oriented financial literacy is the idea behind Goalsetter, which digital media executive Tanya Van Court launched in 2016. Her idea was to embed education into financial products; today, the company has a kids-focused debit card that freezes if the child misses a weekly financial literacy quiz. Van Court has secured backing from Edward Jones, MassMutual and individual investors, including NBA stars Chris Paul and Kevin Durant. In 2021, Goalsetter closed on a $15 million Series A round and recently closed on a $9.6 million extension round. Participants in Goalsetter’s programs see a nearly 50% increase in their financial aptitude, Van Court says.
